Dental emergencies can take many forms. Perhaps you wake up one morning and just can’t take the tooth ache any longer. Or perhaps an accident causing trauma to your mouth has happened. No matter what the dental emergency, you’re probably in pain and need dental care fast.
If you are bleeding, use a cool cloth and apply pressure. If you have a knocked out tooth, try to collect the tooth and put it in a small container of milk. In most cases it is ok to take acetaminophen (Tylenol) to help manage tooth-related pain. Try to avoid Ibuprofin (Advil) if you are bleeding (it has blood thinning agents that can complicate treatment).

Walk-In Dentist in Victoria
We would prefer you call ahead if you need emergency dental care. However, if you walk-in to our dental office the staff will do their best to accommodate you. In some cases, you may have a long waiting period or be referred to the next nearest emergency dentist.
It is better to call ahead at 250-479-6012. This will allow us to assess your situation and provide a reasonable course of action.
Severe Emergency or Trauma
Oak Street Dental is not equipped for severe emergency cases. This would include bodily injury, unconsciousness, or non-dental related pain.
In these situations, you need to go to the hospital emergency room. The doctors there are trained to handle severe trauma, and life or death emergencies, both medical and dental.
Call 9-1-1 in Canada for life or death emergency medical attention.
How do I know if it’s an emergency?
The most common dental emergencies involve a chipped/broken or dislodged tooth, uncomfortable dental wires, or a painful toothache. If you think you have a dental emergency, contact our office for a brief over-the-phone assessment. Don’t wait. A speedy response can sometimes make a big difference.
