How to Prepare for Your Dental Appointment
Get ready for your first appointment at Oak Street Dental in two simple steps:
1. Dental History
Provide the name and contact details of your old dentist if you had one. We’ll arrange for your dental records to be transferred to us – no further effort required on your part.
2. Complete the New Patient Intake Form Online
To save time on your first visit, you can complete your new patient intake form online before your appointment.
What to Expect on Your First Visit
On your first visit you’ll meet your new dentist and dental hygienist. They will take some x-rays, clean your teeth, conduct an oral health exam, and discuss any issues or concerns with you.
If you’re nervous or anxious about dental work, just let us know. Our staff are trained to deal with anxiety and can alleviate some of your discomfort.
Hygiene Assessment and Dental X-Rays
Your hygienist will start a chart for you so we can track the overall health of your teeth and gums. As part of this process, your hygienist will also take some digital x-rays to use as a baseline for understanding your teeth.
Teeth Cleaning
Professional cleaning by a dental hygienist will help to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. A typical cleaning will include:
- Removal of tartar build up
- Tooth polishing
- Flossing and scaling
- Fluoride treatment
New Patient Exam
During your appointment, a dentist will check the health of your teeth and gums.
You’ll be able to see what your dentist sees thanks to our intra-oral cameras and handheld digital x-rays. Your dentist will let you know what they find, discuss your treatment options, and take the time to answer your questions.
